6th Grade
Computer Literacy Cycle
Computer Literacy is one of the cycles you might take at MTMS. We meet every other day for one marking period opposite Physical Education. In Computer class we will focus on using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. If time allows, we will also explore Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Publisher. In addition we will spend time enhancing your keyboarding skills. Other activities we will be doing as time allows will be using Everfi to improve various skills and Code.org to explore coding activities. This is a paper free class. All work is assigned and turned in electronically using Microsoft Teams. For more information, keep reading or scroll to the bottom for a copy of the FYI.
Homework: After we go over the assignments, students will have access to all work for the entire marking period. They can access the work through Class Notebook (OneNote). Students will have the majority of class time to complete the work, however I encourage students to get ahead and try to complete some work at home.
Grades: All grades on Word and Excel assignments will be put in the gradebook as they are graded. All Edpuzzle grades will be put in Parent Access after the due date. Even though final Edpuzzle grades are not put in Parent Access until after the due date you can view them at anytime by going to Edpuzzle.com and looking in the completed section.
Final Edpuzzle Grades: After a student completes an Edpuzzle video if they don't like their grade for any reason, they can request a "do over". Do overs may only be requested in class (e-mail or phone requests will not be accepted) by filling out a "Do Over Request Form". Before I reset their grade I will record the grade that they plan on redoing in Genesis. This is done for two reasons. The first is to show students how the grade they don't like will affect their average if they do not do over the assignment. The second reason is if the student forgets to do the assignment over, I will have a record of the original grade. They can do over Edpuzzle videos as many times as needed until they like their grade. The final Edpuzzle grade (the one they like or have on the due date) will not be put in the gradebook until AFTER the due date. If you would like to see the current Edpuzzle grade please login to Edpuzzle.com.
Due Dates: All due dates will be listed in Parent Access. If due dates are changed there will be a note in Teams and I will change the date in Parent Access ASAP. Assignments completed in Word or Excel are accepted late for reduced credit until the day before the last day of your cycle marking period. Assignments are never accepted after the marking period has changed. Edpuzzle assignments (including Do Overs) are NOT accepted late.
Since we only meet every other day for one marking period, the class goes very fast. Make sure you keep an eye on your grades and do not fall behind. If you are concerned please speak with me after class.
Supplies: You must come prepared with a pen or a pencil as well as your agenda each day. In addition, you must have earbuds or headphones (no USB or wireless) in a ziplock bag that will be kept in the classroom for the marking period. Finally, you must have all passwords with you each day. These passwords will be provided to you during one of our first classes. After that time, it becomes part or your grade to be prepared and able to logon to all accounts each day. Passwords and Usernames can also be found in Parent Access. They are labeled as Network ID (Username) and Network Password.
